Team tackles Transcend’s various challenges

Jun 29, 2023

The hills, trails, creeks, a National park and paddocks of the Avon Valley proved the place to be on June 25 as UON team members tackled the different challenges of the 2023 Transcend Trails event.

UON had one solo competitor for the 65km Ultra run, one 65km relay team of 5 runners, and 22 employees and family members who tackled the 6km hike/run.

The relay team of Brad Thompson, Alan Browne, Manu Krishnamurthy, Ash Chapman and Babak Nobahar beat the encroaching darkness to the finish for an overall team time of 10:28:19. This was 76th overall and the 30th team.

Solo runner Adrian Allen completed the 65km in 13 hours 10 minutes 26 seconds. A section of walking on the fourth leg as darkness arrived and the last leg by torchlight added to the challenge, but saw Adrian cross the line 170th overall.

The 6km Hike leg did a loop from and to the finish zone, attracting 22 UON team members on what turned out to be perfect conditions for a country walk.

Walk or run, the “hike” took participants up hills, across fields, over creeks, up rocky outcrops and along bush tracks back to the finish zone.

UON CEO Greg Heylen led the way for the team, covering the 6km challenge in 48 mins 6 seconds to be 11th outright. Chasing Greg all the way was HSE Manager Steve Mills who crossed the line in 48 minutes 53 seconds.

UON continued its support of the Transcend event in 2023 as a sponsor and supplier of the generators to power the start area, aid stations and finish zone.
