SAFETY & MENTAL HEALTH

CARING FOR OUR PEOPLE

Every member of the UON team has an important role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for themself, colleagues, contractors, clients and visitors.

Safety is a UON Value – Every day, we think safe, we act safe.

Our employee behaviours guide emphasises the importance of performing all tasks safely; constantly reviewing processes to find a safer way to work; and to prioritise safety before results.

UON’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy sits atop a structure that implements and maintains procedures and work practices, designed to prevent industrial accidents and ensure a healthy working environment.

UON has an Employee Health and Wellbeing Procedure to promote and maintain the health and wellbeing of our teams through workplace practices and initiatives.

The health and wellbeing of our team is key to UON’s ongoing success and the sustainability of the company.
This procedure is also intended to address the mental health and wellness obligations required under the Mining Safety and Inspection Act of 1994, Workplace Health and Safety Act 2020 and the Equal Opportunity Act of 1984.

A range of recognised assessment and interaction tools are utilised across our workforce to help monitor and increase awareness of the support available.

UON is proud to help our people access support through our Employee Assistance Provider and noted organisations including Mates in Mining, RU OK?, Institute and Head to Health.

Recognising the benefits that physical and inclusive activity has in supporting mental health and general well-being, UON encourages and actively supports employees’ participation in a range of physical activities including sporting events such as triathlons, trail hiking and cycling. Additionally, UON provides twice weekly group exercise sessions, led by qualified physical trainers, for all employees.
