Employees from across UON’s Malaga sites celebrated NAIDOC Week, participating in a Welcome to Country and Smoke Ceremony at our Victoria Road Production workshop.
Creating a connection between the work that UON does and the Whadjuk Noongar Country on which it operates, UON employees were welcomed by proud Aboriginal leader Joe Collard in a celebration of culture and recognition of Aboriginal people and their heritage.
UON CEO Greg Heylen said the ceremony was a significant moment for UON, which as a business continues to seek opportunities to increase the cultural awareness of Aboriginal traditions and connection to country.
“While as UON employees we come to Malaga most days, it is important that we not only recognise, but also celebrate the links that Aboriginal people, the traditional owners, have to the lands and surrounding country on which we live and work,” Mr Heylen said.
