Celebrating Harmony Week and St Patrick’s Day at UON

Bringing together the many cultures within UON

Over 5 days in March UON explored the many cultures within a team that is now well over 300. We have a team that now comes from over 23 nationalities and speaking almost as many languages! With so much richness within our team, the day was a great opportunity to share and learn about each other’s cultural context. There were different activities on each day including the team bringing different foods from their country, winning prizes in a UON culture quiz and hearing stories about how everyone all ended up here in Australia.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit!

UON has grown from largely Irish roots. Mark Keogh first arrived in Australia from Ireland in 1989 before founding UON in 1998. Since then Mark has attracted many others to join UON from the Emerald Isle, including a large family contingent of Keoghs. As a result, St Patrick’s Day is a special time at UON! Within the many Harmony Week activities, St Patrick’s Day was a day all of its own involving wearing green, eating an Irish-themed lunch and drinking the national beverage (in moderation).
